Pregnant Women With Gum Infection May Risk Their Baby's Health

Because pregnant women are at risk for periodontal disease, mothers-to-be should learn the importance of periodontal health and practice good dental care. This is because periodontal disease is a gum infection that is to be taken seriously since it poses a risk to the baby's health. Pregnant women with untreated gum infection may experience pre-term birth, premature baby and low birth weight babies. So, if you are planning to get pregnant or at risk for periodontal disease, make sure to have a periodontal evaluation with a periodontist included as a part of your prenatal care because good periodontal health may lead to a healthier body and a healthy baby.
